  • Workshops for children are based on an understanding of developmental and educational theory combined with Angelina’s experience with hundreds of classes in urban, rural, multiethnic, and multiply challenged classrooms and studios. School residencies are created to meet the needs of students, curriculum, and teachers. All classes meet the National Standards for Arts Education. Residencies can also include workshops for teachers and administrators.

ABOUT ANGELINA

Dr. Angelina Peggy Hunt Richter is the founder and artistic director of Dancing Earth. Angelina has danced professionally in Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, Canada, Micronesia, Finland, Brazil, Hawaii, and throughout the US. She received her BA from Goddard College, her MA from Western Michigan University, and her Doctorate in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Angelina directed the graduate program in dance education at the University of Hawaii, the dance certification program at Radford University in Virginia, and was on the dance faculty at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has been the key presenter at the International Dance Education Symposium in Taiwan and regularly presents at national/international conferences. Angelina has also been a Senior Research Fellow at Nanyang University in Singapore, a Scholar in Residence at the University of Melbourne, Temple University, Columbia Teachers College, and Northern Marians College. She has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as state and private foundations.

Choreography, performance, and community involvement play a central role in her career. She founded Terrestrial Theatre in Michigan which evolved into Dancing Earth and was a member of Meredith Monk's “The House” in New York City. Her work has been performed for over 300,000 children over 3 decades. Her colorful performances have appeared in many venues such as First Night Honolulu, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the National Puppetry Festival in Seattle, the American College Dance Festival and in Australia, Singapore, and Micronesia.
